We started our Kakadu journey at the jumping crocodiles at Adelaide River. It was a boat tour for an hour listening to the guide share some knowledge and laughs about the salt water croc. Our guide dangled some meat off the edge of the boat and next minute we had a salty launching up on the side of the boat. Yes they are lazy but boy they can jump! It was unreal to see them up close and how high they could get. No fence between you and the crocs like in a zoo, these were proper wild creatures. Lowana wasn’t afraid which was good she was begging for more.

We then made our way to Jabiru where we spent the night at the Kakadu lodge . The town was surprisingly big, it consisted of a lot of housing due to it being an ex mining town. It had a local post office and grocery store and of course a Thai restaurant 🧐
The next morning we decided to make our way up to Cahills crossing and camp at Merl Campground. We loved this camp it was our favourite within the national park. It was full of bird life and pandanus palms. The only let down was the mosquitoes. We got to watch a beautiful sunrise whilst doing our morning work out it was most rewarding. Cahill crossing is just located down the road and it’s a famous river crossing where people flock to fish or watch the crocs cross the Ford. When we arrived it was jam packed with tourists trying to spot as many saltys as possible. We saw 3… crocs that is.

Ubirr rock is definitely worth a visit, the aboriginal rock art is different and has a lot of detail. There is even evidence the Tasmanian Tiger once roamed this country. Standing on the rock and looking at the view reminded us of the lion king.

Next stop was Maguk campground where we spent 2 nights. It’s a pretty campground and very tropical again. We explored maguk waterfall which was a 3km return walk over rock boulders. It was a pretty spot again popular with tourists however it didn’t stop us. The water was lovely and surprisingly warm.

Due to Twin falls and Gunlom falls being closed and Jim Jim falls being dried up we were pretty much at the end of our Kakadu adventure. We found the experience to be a little underwhelming as this place gets so much publicity. We had to pay an expensive fee to access the park however not all of the attractions were open. Never mind you get that on the big jobs.
