Katherine

We made our way to Katherine where we were going to spend the next few days. We stayed at the Manbulloo Homestead which is 7kms west of Katherine. It’s a great place to stay if you have kids, they have horses and cows that you can feed daily with the station owners or at your own leisure. We went to the Nitmaluk national park where we got to see the beautiful Katherine Gorge and River.

We went to Tom Curtains outback Spectacular show where they train wild horses and working dogs. We got to see them in action and how they train the animals. Tom is also a country and western singer so he would ride his horse and play a song on his guitar whilst standing! Now that’s a true cowboy 🤠

Katherine was extremely busy, caravans everywhere however the town surprisingly was quite large. The people are friendly and it has a K-hub which is like a smaller Kmart. The first Kmart we have seen in 10 weeks, Lowana was like a little kid spotting ice cream “MUM DAD KMART!!” 🤩

On our last night we went to a special bush Tucker dinner run by Marksie, he’s a local from Darwin who knows how to put on a traditional spread for travelling guests. All the meals were cooked in his 80+yr old camp ovens, using local bush ingredients and were so tasty! It was set under the stars and he gave us an entertaining history of Katherine and what it would have been like back in 1921 having dinner at Wave Hill Station. This was my highlight of Katherine it was excellent, you have to put this on your to do list!

The next morning we left Katherine early and made our way to see Edith Falls. We did the hike and had a refreshing swim under the waterfall.

Next stop the Daley River.
