Wyndham & Kununurra

Our first night off the Gibb was spent at the Wyndham caravan park where we caught up on washing and did a bit of sight seeing around Wyndham. We watched the sunset at the 5 rivers look out with a couple of coldies which was magical. The 5 rivers were the Ord, Pentecost, Durack, Forrest and King Rivers . We also explored the old town of Wyndham and learnt about the first lot of Afghans that came to work in WA and the contributions they made to Australian history.

We then made our way to Kununurra, we were all excited to see what this great little town was like. We checked into the Kimberley Entrance caravan park which is right on the river front. It’s a great caravan park with a pool, cafe , playground and live entertainment on Friday evenings. Kununurra is really spoilt for choice having the Gibb River road on the door step along with the Northern Teritory they have the best of both words! We visited Kelly’s Knob lookout which is a birds eye view of Kununurra. It’s definitely worth the visit at either sunrise or sunset.

We had a lovely visit from my grandparents and Uncle whilst being up here. It was great being able to catch up with them. We visited Mirima national park which is located in town. The locals call it a mini version of the Bungle Bungles, definitely put this place on your list it’s gorgeous and the walks are really easy.

We fell in love with the Wild Mango cafe in town the best breakfast and coffee in Kununurra. Lyndon and I rate it better than all the cafes in Broome. We were really impressed with Kununurra it honestly has everything and for half the price than Derby and Broome!

Our next plan was to go down to the Bungle Bungles  for a couple of nights however COVID hit again so we decided to cross the border to the Northern Territory before it closed. After spending the last 2 months in the Kimberley we were ready to see what the NT has on offer. Eagerly excited we packed up and headed for the border the next day. Sorry Purnululu we’ll see ya next time.
