The drive into Lake Argyle is truly breathtaking. The wildflowers were blooming and the colours of the rocks were so vivid. We booked in at the caravan park for 4nights. It was packed!! Caravans everywhere. We were lucky enough to get an awesome spot with a view. We had booked months ago however so many people hadn’t and they either had to sleep out front for the night and wait until there was availability or leave it for another time.

There are plenty of things to do here. On our way in we visited the Argyle homestead museum. This homestead was originally built in the middle of what now is Lake Argyle by the durack family back in 1895. It wasn’t until 1970 they had to move the homestead as the lake began to fill. Lake argyle is the 2nd largest man made lake in Australia. It’s 21 times larger than the Sydney harbour! It’s honestly mind blowing.

We went for a drive and found some aboriginal rock art from many years ago. We also did a bush walk up to the old telephone line where they would have to go to phone Perth. It’s a 1.5k return walk up a steep hill.

We did the sunset cruise and were just so gobsmacked at how large the fresh water lake is, it’s honestly like an ocean. It has enough water for all of Western Australia! And it’s not even at full capacity. The cruise was really informative, we spotted many fresh water crocs swimming about. At the end of the tour the boat parked up for us all to have a swim and beer whilst watching the sunset.

The pool at the caravan park is freezing. We all think it’s got to be so it stops every man and his dog swimming in it. It’s the 2nd most photographed pool in the world! Pretty specky hey! The caravan park has a large beer garden and also has live music every night.

We met up with some friends that we met back at Ellenbrae Station. Lowana was over the moon to see her friend again. We drove the 4wd track up to the viewing point, it was a rather short track but the view was still impressive.

Thanks Lake Argyle for a beautiful stay.
