It’s been over a week of living on the road, we reached Broome within 4 days of travelling with a 3 year old in tow we thought that was impressive. It definitely tested our patience at times 😬 but overall Lowana travelled really well. We haven’t had to resort to an iPad or phone for her yet and we really hope to keep it that way. My word of advice is pack plenty of snacks, split the toys up and keep some in front with you so when they have had enough you can pass one back as a “surprise”. Oh and make sure you have a good selection of music!

The van towed really well on our way up, we were averaging 17 litres per 100kms .We were travelling with a trunk on the roof of the car which contained Lyndon’s work tools, we thought if that was off we could get better fuel economy with a little less wind resistance. So up on Gumtree it goes.

Being able to pull over, open the door of the van and access the coffee machine or make lunch away from the flies felt like absolute luxury and so convenient! Lowana doesn’t mind the odd ‘bush wees’ but went she needs to go #2s, the toilet in the van saves the day
The first few days in were a bit stressful I’m not going to lie we were all exhausted from the build up of leaving. With our caravan being over a month delayed then once we had received it we found a water leak so it went back to Jayco to get repaired. That then only left a week of installing the toolbox and doing our own mods to it. Plus packing our life into it and saying goodbye to family and friends. We were tired but eager to get on with it. The first few days consisted of arguments and tantrums but I am happy to say we are now a happy little family😂

We spent the week at Cable Beach Caravan Park with a large site and a great swimming pool. The toilet and shower facilities were up to scratch and there were plenty of washing machines. They have a small cafe at the reception which make excellent smoothies, breakfast and lunch options. Being a coffee snob I wouldn’t really rate the coffee. It would be hard to top this park and we will definitely be back.

We did all the usual touristy things in Broome, beer tasting at Matsos Brewery, Lyndon loved the chilli beer especially with Broome’s hot climate it went down well. They have weekend markets at the Courthouse. We walked the streets of China town and had breakfast at the Green Mango Cafe which make superb coffee. We took Lowana to the Malcolm Douglas croc park and finished with a camel ride along with the famous Cable Beach sunset.

We couldn’t get over the amount of retail and hospitality jobs going in Broome, obviously due to the lack of foreigners. Even the places that were open we found they were run off their feet. If you are after a change of scenery there are definitely jobs up here!
Our next destination is the Dampier Peninsula where we explore Pender Bay, Kooljaman, Cygnet Bay and the free camps along the way!
